San Francisco General Hospital
As a public hospital, San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) is owned and operated by the City and County of San Francisco as part of the Department of Public Health. The mission of San Francisco’s safety net hospital is to provide compassionate and culturally competent care to its diverse population of patients. SFGH is a nationally renowned teaching hospital associated with the UCSF School of Medicine and the city’s only trauma center. Additionally, SFGH is one of the few Baby-Friendly certified hospitals in the United States. As a Baby-Friendly hospital, SFGH offers optimal care related to breastfeeding and mother/baby bonding.
The Birth Center at SFGH aims to provide access to high quality, culturally competent care for all childbearing women, regardless of financial, physical, and linguistic barriers. The nurses, midwives, and physicians are committed to the concept that birth is a natural and normal event in women’s lives.
